Nexus Community Partners Fosters Community Ownership in the Twin Cities
As a part of our Community-Owned Real Estate (CORE) Program, we have been working with The Center for Community Investment (CCI) to support CORE Ecosystem Stewards, or organizations that provide the expertise, financing support, and relationships needed to make community ownership possible. CCI just released the second installment of its new series, Ecosystem Stewards: Building the Infrastructure for Shared Ownership, a case study of Nexus Community Partners in the Twin Cities.
In this case study you'll find our detailed "Deal Profile" on an innovative and powerful example of the connection between community organizing and real estate stewardship: the acquisition of Shingle Creek Center by Ignite Business Women Investment Group (IBWIG) and African Career, Education, & Resources Inc. (ACER).
The case study and Deal Profile provides an inside look at the key functions that Ecosystem Stewards play in creating the conditions for Community-Owned Real Estate to emerge. For our partners interested in financing CORE, the Deal Profile gets into the details of the capital stack, the stories behind the capital stack, and lessons for lenders, funders, and community leaders.
